Our program  

The Sorbian Folkdancegroup Schmerlitz offers various programs for indoor or outdoor events. 

Not only the fun to dance and to move is our motivation. We want to sustain our sorbian folkdance and folkmusic and make it known in our region and throughout the world. 

Our repertoire consists primarily of authentic folk dances that have been adapted for the stage and are performed in folk costumes typical for the sorbian regions. The beautifully coloured traditional costumes create a formidable experience.

On stage the folk group Sprjewjan accompanies us musically. The group keeps authentic folk music alive but also uses more modern arrangements to enhance the interest and dissemination of traditional Sorb folksongs. The songs tell of love and pain, the joie de vivre, sadness and suffering – rich in variations and with a wide range of musical means of expression. The instruments the use include bagpipes, three-stringfiddle, accordion, bass, guitar and percussion. 

In our programme ( 10 to 90 minutes ) we present Sorbian culture in dance, music and song. We give around 40 performances a year.
